Happy New Year! Y4 began 2016 by playing a word game via Skype with our French partner class – the French children held up large jumbled up letters, and Y4 had to work out which French word they spelled ! It was lovely to see them again – they have received the parcel of presents and cards we sent for Christmas and are working on a reply to send us !
Y3 learned the French names for colours – we spotted a few cognates along the way too! Can you see any?
In Y4,5 and 6 we have been learning some names for foods – we noticed that a lot of the French words for bakery foods have found their way straight into English. Next time you are in a supermarket, see if you can spot any French words. We also found a “false friend” – a word that looks & sounds like an English word but means something rather different. Can you remember what “des chips” are ?
We had a great discussion about some of the more unusual items that might be eaten in France – les escargots ! We found out that there are 191 snail farms in France – and there is even one in Devon! Some of the pupils inY5 and Y6 are keen to try them, so watch this space !!!
