Friday was all about workshops and meeting people. I attended a workshop called Tools 2.0 which focussed on using Nearpod and Socrative as tools for working collaboratively in eTwinning projects. Meeting up with teachers from so many countries, and hearing about their IT facilities ( or lack thereof) made me realise, once again, how lucky we are at Worsbrough Common to have such amazing IT !
The second workshop I attended was about the benefit of eTwinning projects – it was all in German, which was fine as I understood it all. However, when it was my turn to speak, it made me realise how much languages evolve … I had to ask how to say upload, embed and login – those words didn’t exist when I learned my German as a child
My third workshop was not what I expected. It was all about the brand new museum which is going to be opened in Brussels next year – The House of European History. I thought we were going to listen to a presentation about their teacher resources. How wrong was I ! We were split into teams, given 50 minutes to read / watch & evaluate a section of resources, develop a project plan and then “pitch” the project to the whole room (a bit like Dragon’s Den)…. All whilst being filmed by a TV crew . As I was the only native English speaker, my group decided I’d do the pitch
. I survived, but it was a bit pressured!!
After the final session, we had a free hour in Brussels, so I found myself a bookshop and browsed away happily ( I do love a good bookshop!) before the gala dinner – a very formal affair with massive candelabras on the tables. Here is a picture of our table, with about half of the UK team. The other half were on the table just next to us.
