In Y3 we explored the definite and indefinite article, and when we would use this type of determiner. We compared and contrasted the French determiners with their English counterparts, and realised that the French have a more words for a / the / some because of noun gender.
In Y4, 5 & 6 we pulled all our learning from over the past few weeks together to learn how to say the date in French. Using Fan&Pick, pupils helped each other say dates in French or translate into English before writing their own sentences.
We had a very funny Skype with Madame Lecalvé’s class – we had to go through my iPad , and they couldn’t hear us, but we could hear them. We had planned an activity to test the French children on their English verbs, so I had verb cards already written out for y4 to mime… If you are familiar with Bob Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues video, that’s a bit like how I felt, holding cards up to the iPad to communicate! It worked really well – y4 mimed the verbs, and the French class had great fun guessing them. I think the technology breakdown actually helped!
